AIYANA IN THE CARIBBEAN

We have had a great time sailing Aiyana in the BVI for the last two weeks.

Our first event was the Loro Piana Superyacht Cup in Virgin Gorda, which was amazing!

Following that regatta we moved down Nanny Cay, Tortola for the BVI Spring regatta and sailing festival.

The sailing was fantastic and the highlight for us was breaking the "Round Tortola Record", which was one of the races during the Festival. Follow the link below for the whole story!

Tower Marine and Mcconaghy boats in Mona Vale teamed up to complete the re-fit on Atomic, the Andy Dovell designed 50ft Canting keel harbour racer. The boat is performing extremely well and looks amazing!

Thanks to all involved, this was a great project.

We intend to carry out some modifications during the winter to improve the yacht and get the Aussie/ Swiss crew out there again in 2013- Stay tuned!

LOKI WINS SYDNEY TO HOBART

After 4 attempts, the fabulous RP 63 Loki has won the 2011 "Great Race"!!

A great team effort led by Stephen Ainsworth was the key to winning Division 1 over some fearse competition such as Living Doll and Ragamuffin. We then had to wait to see if the little boats could make it in to knock us off the podium.

It wasn't to be the small boats race and after a long wait over night, this morning we where presented the Tattersal's Throphy and Rolex watch for winning the race overall on IRC!!

I am very proud to have contributed to the build and campaigning of the boat over the past three years. It has been great fun and i look forward to the future on Loki. Congratulations to Stephen and the entire Loki team!!

For a closer look at Loki and some of her details, please follow the below link to the Daily Sail website, where Gordon Maguire and I do a guided tour of the boat.

NEW PROJECT- ALIA 65 HARBOUR RACER

Its with great excitement that I can post the images and details of this new day sailor concept yacht, the ALIA 65 by

Reichel Pugh Yacht Design.

Alia Yachts, Reichel Pugh and Tower Marine have teamed up to create a superbly styled and outrageously fast harbour racing yacht, capable of short handed day sailing or fully crewed IRC racing at Hamilton Island Race Week, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup or San Francisco Big Boat Series!!

The hull, deck, interior and carbon structure design is now well progressed and we are now looking for interested parties to express their interest in this exciting project. Ultimately these would be built in pairs so we can create some fun one-design racing as well as competing under IRC.

ANOTHER LIGHT AIR RACE FOR ALEGRE

Like the Volcano Race, this years Giraglia Rock Race was light, very light!!

The inshore series was good us us, we won both races on corrected time and over the line, but the long race was another story. We could never extend as we continually sailed away from the breeze which continued to build from behind us, blowing the smaller boats ever closer!! The boat is now on-route to Portsmouth in the UK to prepare for Cowes Week and Fastnet. I will post another Alegre report  after the big race!!

30/5/2011

ALEGRE WINS ROLEX VOLCANO RACE

Congratulations to Andy Soriano and team for winning the New Rolex Volcano Race on IRC Overall, Line honours and setting a course record!!

It was a good race, even though it was really light. Alegre certainly likes the lighter breezes and we took advantage of it, by stretching out from the rest of the fleet to win pretty convincingly. Next event is Rolex Giraglia for Alegre.

BACK IN THE MED!

I have just finished the first regatta of the Med season, Palma Vela with Andy Soriano's Alegre.

Its great to be back on-board again this season and we have a busy schedule including the new Rolex Volcano Race in May, and the Fastnet Race in the UK. Stay tuned for more from Alegre.

LOKI JUST KEEPS ON WINNING!!!

CYCA BLUE WATER POINT SCORE CHAMPION 2010-11 SEASON

After many years of trying, Stephen Ainsworth can finally say he is the Ocean Racing Champion of Australia. The Blue Water Point Score is a culmination of Ocean Races throughout the season including the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race. Loki ended up on top after finishing the final race, the Audi Newcastle Race and although Loki didn't win that race, the points where such that just finishing was nearly enough to clench victory.

Congratulations to the team, the boat and of course Stephen!!

The Tower family just spent the last month out in the Caribbean with the Alia 82 LK Aiyana.

AIYANA IN ST TROPEZ

We enjoyed a great week of racing in one of the most beautiful places in the Med, St Tropez!

The Voile de St Tropez is the climax to a busy sailing season in the summer in Europe. This years event was as spectacular as ever and we had a some great sailing, weather and parties!

Thanks to all for making it such a great week, and looking forward to the Caribbean season!!

LOKI- 2010 AUSTRALIAN IRC CHAMPION

After winning Hamilton Island Race Week on board Loki with a day to spare, Loki was crowned Australian IRC Champion.

Loki won the Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta in March, the Sydney to Southport Race in July and Hamilton Island Race week to snatch the title! In doing so Stephen Ainsworth won a new Audi A5 and was wrapped with the performance of the crew and yacht;

"“I’m speechless. It’s been a roller-coaster ride for someone who goes sailing with a crew of good mates for the love of the sport,” a proud Ainsworth said when Audi Australia’s managing director Uwe Hagen presented him with the keys to his brand new Audi.

Congratulations to Stephen and wife Nanette and thanks for a great season of sailing!

ANOTHER RECORD!

Stephen Ainsworth's Loki once again claimed an Ocean Race Record by winning line honours in this weekends CYCA Cabbage Tree Island Race. The Loki Team shaved nearly 90 minutes off the record and finished second overall which is a great way to start our Sydney to Hobart 2009 campaign.

Well done to the Loki Team and looking forward to the "Great Race"!

WIN IN MIDDLE SEA RACE

Congratulations to Andy Soriano and the Team of Alegre, the 2009 Middle Sea Race Winners!

It was great to be a part of such a fantastic 18 man crew for European season finale in Malta.

The race gave us a taste of everything from 5 knots to nearly 40 knots and a very untidy sea-way which lead to several retirements from this years race.

Alegre finished with a lead of just 23 minutes on corrected time over the new Beau Jeste and well ahead of Luna Rossa and RAN on elapsed and corrected time. A great effort for the team!

I am looking forward to next years season with the Alegre Team!

Please contact Tower Marine for more information on building yachts in Turkey.

August/ September 2009

The last two months have been very busy sailing on Loki in Australia and Alegre in Europe.

On Loki we completed the Sydney to Southport Race and last week was the Rolex Maxi Cup in Sardinia on board Alegre.

It has been fantastic to sail on these two excellent Mini Maxis and as this class grows over the next 12 months, I am sure you will continue to see both campaigns gaining results.

Next month is the final event for the 2009 European season, the Rolex Middle Sea Race which starts in Malta. Alegre won line honours in this race last year so the team will be keen to repeat its performance.

Stay posted for results from Malta!!

Well done Loki and i am looking forward to our up coming Sydney to Southport and Hamilton Island Regatta.

UPDATE FROM ANTALYA

I am currently on my first site visit to Alia Yachts where we are constructing a new Warwick 82 Performance Cruising Yacht.

The inner skin is now complete on the hull and the deck is also being laminated in two seperate climate control tents.

The facility here is second to none and the highly skilled workforce make for a what should turn out to be a great boat!

Tower Marine is looking after the overall Project Management and Owner Representative roles during construction. We are building the mast in New Zealand at Hall Spars and the sails are from North Sails in North America.

These are a few pictures of progress. Please visit again soon for more pictures and updates on the progress of the build.

YEAR OF THE LOKI

Firstly, I must appologies to the many visitors of my website that it has taken so long for me to update this page! Anyway, that is behind us now and Loki is successfully sailing!!

It was a very busy schedule to build Loki and have her ready for the 2008 Sydney to Hobart Race. The new boat is the latest Reichel Pugh 63' design which we built at McConaghy Boats in Sydney Australia.

The team at McConaghys did a fantastic job building the boat and fitting the latest hardware from Harken and Lewmar Winches. Our on-site contractors Olectric Systems and Central Coast Hydraulics worked tierlessly to complete the boat. To compliment this was a Southern Spars Ultra High Modulus Mast complete with EC6 carbon rigging, sails from North Sails Sydney and rigging from Sydney Rigging Specialists. APM in Italy made the fabricated, high tensile steel keel fin and the bulb and complimentary keel parts where supplied by CA Rich in Sydney. To all of these suppliers I thank you all for your involvement and assistance with making the build of Loki such a success.

Since launching Loki in mid December, we have completed the Sydney to Hobart and two regattas in Melbourne, the Docklands Invitational and Skandia Geelong Week. The boat has performed very well and we look forward to more racing this year including the Audi Regatta in March, Sydney to Southport and Hamilton Island Race Week.

Congratulations to the team of Loki for having such a succesful start to the season with a 1st at Docklands and 3rd at Skandia Geelong Week against some of the countries latest and greatest sailing teams!

Thanks once again to Andrea Francolini for the photograghs. Please visit www.afrancolini.com for more pictures of Loki.

The boat will be built over 15 months and will spend the 2010 season cruising the waters of the Agean and Med before crossing the Atlantic to the Carribean.

Please monitor the progress of the build via www.towermarine.com/latestnews

WILD OATS TRIPLE

What a way to finish the year for Tower Marine, a third successive Line Honours Win in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on Wild Oats XI!

The race was fantastic, as was the team that sailed onboard this year, definately our best race out of the three in my opinion!!

Well done to the Oatley Family and all the Wild Oats Team!!

METS AND TURKEY SHIPYARD VISITS

During November Tower Marine visited the largest Marine Trade Show of the year, METS in Amsterdam. The show was incredible and a great opportunity to meet new clients, suppliers and of course old mates!

The amount of new equipment on offer was excellent to see and experience and it will be an annual event for Tower Marine.

After the show I went on a Shipyard tour with a great collegue of mine in Turkey. Can Erertem is the director of Pupa Yachting based in Bodrum, and he took me to some of the very best yards in Turkey looking for new opportunities to build large sailing yachts.

I also visited some yards in Antalya and Istanbul. My understanding of the Turkish Marine Industry has led me to believe there is alot of great boats to come from there in the future. Please contact Tower Marine for more information.

I WILL MISS LOKI

The unfortunate events leading up to the eventual loss of Loki during the Middle Sea Race this year will not be forgotten quickly. I am very dissapointed to see the end of such a great boat and look forward to racing again very soon with the Loki Team. Thanks for a great year!

AC, VALLARTA ADVENTURE UP AND SAILING

After three weeks in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Tower Marine has completed the re-fit of AUS 29 and 31 and both boats are now out sailing.

The final piece of the puzzle was to re-assemble the boats and get the new Aussie and Mexican crew up to speed with sailing these ex-America's Cup boats in the corporate and tourist sailing world. All went together perfectly and to see more,

RUSHCUTTER 25 UNDERWAY

After 3 years of coming up with new ideas, designing with Andy Dovell and dreaming of building my own boat, it is finally happening and the Rushcutter 25 is underway!

Phil Smidmore and his team are building the first of hopefully many 25's, which will be ready this summer. Tower Marine will be promoting the boats at all the local Australian boatshows next year as well as the international market via a brokerage in Europe.

It is designed to suit family weekend boating and with its centrepoint lift ability, will be an attractive tender for superyachts.

Please visit the Rushcutter page on this site, or go to www.rushcutter.com.au

DISSASTER STRIKES WILD OATS

On the second day of racing at the Maxi World Championships in Porto Cervo, Wild Oats was dismasted. An unknown failure aloft brought the 47mtr Southern Spars Carbon mast tumbling into the famous stretch of water known as “Bomb Alley” for its fresh and consistent winds in the late summer.

The team is obviously very disappointed but will be ready for Sydney to Hobart so watch this space!!

Morning Glory where the eventual winners of this years event, closely followed by Loki, who had a great regatta. Well done Stephen and crew and look forward to joining you guys for the Middle Sea and Arc race later this year.

WILD OATS LAUNCHED AGAIN

After seven weeks in Composite Works factory in La Ciotat, France, Wild Oats appeared with its longer and improved Bow Sprit and a few other small modifications in preperation for the Maxi World Championships next month in Sardinia.

The work team have been here this week re-rigging and setting up and we re-launched the boat with the most amazing old crane, its huge!! The whole place is an old ship building facility and while it is a bit of a mess right now, it certainly is going to be one of the best facilities in the Med for servicing and building boats.

I will be updating the Wild Oats progress over the coming weeks so please keep visiting the site for updates and race results.

LOKI PERFORMS WELL AT FASTNET

The Loki team had a great Fastnet Race! We finished 4th overall and 1st on IRM.

We pushed the boat pretty hard and apart from a couple of light spots, we where sailing in about 20-25 knots of breeze.

The turning point of the race was Fastnet Rock, just off the South Eastern tip of Ireland, and it turned out to be the undoing of our chances to win overall. We took just over two hours to get round the rock, while the boats in front of us and behind, sailed through this infamous yachting landmark without a worry!!

The Cookson 50 Chieftain won the race and the new Leopard of London won line honours and broke the race record!!

Well done to all the team of Loki and look forward to the Middle Sea Race on-board!

11/8/2007

LOKI prepares for Fastnet

The Loki team have done a great job on the race course this week to finish third in Skandia Cowes Week. The boat was really competative in the moderate winds, and the crew did a great job on the challenging solent courses. Two very well sailed and rated TP 52's where first and second and after deciding not to race the last day, we gave up a sure second for suitable preperation time for the long race.

Currently the race has been postponed for 24hrs due to a strengthening low preasure system in the Irish Sea so we are looking at a pretty nasty race!!

Please come back later in the week for a Fastnet wrap up!!

AC Boats arrive in Mexico

Tower Marine this year completed a large re-fit on two IACC yachts, AUS 29 and AUS 31.

The re-fit took place in Rozelle Bay Superyacht Site, Sydney and last month where loaded on the Bulk Freight carrier "Edmondgraht" bound for Manzanillo, Mexico. I attended the unload and we succesfully delivered the boats 150nm up to Puerto Vallarta, there new home.

In Puerto Vallarta they will join a succesful charter and tour complany and run match racing tours in the beautiful Banderas Bay.

The fleet of AC boats in Mexico is now 4, the aussie boats joining NZL 81 and 82, which are now succesfully operating the same fun races in Cabo san Lucas.

A team of Aussie crew are arriving in September to re-assemble the boats and get them racing by October.

Keep your eye on the website for updates from this successful and most enjoyable project.

Loki Arrives in the UK

After a month on board the container ship "Anne Rickmers", Loki has arrived in the UK.

The boat was able to be shipped under deck and has arrived in good order, but unfortunately the mast was a little damaged in transit so we are currently getting it repaired at Formula Spars in Lymington.

This week we have transported the boat by truck to HYS in Hamble and preparations continue for the upcoming Cowes Week and Fastnet.

This week I went on a research mission to Taiwan to look at potential shipyards for future projects.

It was fascinating to see this busy country and some of its large boat and shipyards.

There is alot of quality work going on up there and if you require more information, please contact Tower Marine.
